How much does a quart of strawberries weigh?  An average quart of strawberries weighs about 1 1/3 pounds.

Should the hulls be left on the berry when picking?  Yes, berries picked with the hull will last longer, look better and taste better if the hulls are not removed until serving (or freezing).

How many berries do I need to make a batch of jam?  You will need 2 full quarts (about 3 pounds) for each batch of jam.

Do I need to bring my own containers when I come to your farm to pick berries?  No, we provide containers.

Are children allowed to pick strawberries at your farm?  Yes, we allow well-behaved children of all ages to pick berries.

What is the best part of the season to pick strawberries?  The strawberry season in the northeast is very short and intense, the best picking (easiest picking, biggest berries) is generally during the first 10-14 days of the season.

When does your season start?  Our season usually starts about mid-June.

What other crops do you have available for u-pick?   We also have blueberries and raspberries that you can pick yourself.

How much can I save by picking my own berries instead of buying them already picked?  You can save about 50% by picking them yourself.

What is the best way to freeze strawberries?  Rinse the berries, drain well and remove the hulls.  If you want your berries IQF (individually quick frozen) place them on cookie trays in your freezer until frozen solid and place in containers of your choice.  Some people prefer their berries sliced with or without sugar packed in containers and frozen in their juices.  Use within 6 months.

I don’t have time to pick, can I by them already picked?  Yes, we usually have pre-picked berries available at our farm stand on a daily basis during the strawberry season.

Where do I go to buy them pre-picked?  Our farm stand is located on state route 22 just west of the Price Chopper plaza near the village of Granville, NY.  (Pre-picked berries are not available at the fields where you pick your own.)
